Uganda is one of the few countries that are blessed with a wide collection of wild animals, bird species, mountains, forests, and primate species. The country has recorded a rapid growth of the tourism industry for the past years and this is because of its magnificent look of nature and calm people.
One of the greatest attractions in Uganda is the hard-to find mountain gorillas and the human-like Chimpanzees. These chimpanzees are found in specific areas of Uganda and they are grouped and habituated to human contact just like the gorillas. Though chimps have an unpredictable nature that makes them slightly less approachable, there is no doubt that spending a day with these human-like mammals is one of those unforgettable moments.
In Uganda Kibale Forest National Park offers the best environment for Chimpanzee tracking. Visitors at the park get a chance to get close to these mammals and even take photographs with them. Chimp tracking at Kibale Forest National Park takes 3 hours with a maximum of one hour specifically spent with the chimps.
A day spent tracking the chimps guarantees a visitor with more adventure and if lucky, a fight between a chimp and monkey can be witnessed. They crash through the undergrowth and swing across the tree tops making different sounds. It is advisable that you keep a distance from them because if irritated, they can attack a human being. This is the reason why it is recommended to switch off the flush of the camera while taking photographs with these enchanting animals.
Before going for Chimp tracking, you are briefed and grouped in small numbers since moving in large numbers scares the chimpanzees. Sometimes it becomes a hustle to see the Chimps and you need to get some tips before starting the trek. Chimps are fond of hiding in leaves and one needs to be vigilant enough in order to see them. This explains why on some occasions, the guide may tell you to keep quite while tracking.
Apart from Kibale Forest National Park, there are other places in Uganda where these mammals can be seen including; Queen Elizabeth National Park, Semuliki National Park, Budongo Forest Reserve and Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary.
Kalangala is an island found on East Africa’s largest lake called Lake Victoria and it takes a 3 hour sail across Lake Victoria to access the place. The journey to Kalangala is so interesting with a relaxing expedition. On your way to the island, a cool breeze will blow all the stress away and this is best experienced on the balconies, in case one is traveling by ferry.
It looks to be a hustle to get to the Island but once one is welcomed by the virgin rural look of this fishing village, he/she is convinced that the hustle was worth it. People at this island are peaceful and they mainly put up semi-permanent shelters. These features act as a welcome to this true African-styled village that is said to float on the lake.
There are no modern structures at the island. The only structures are the semi-permanent structures which act as people's homes while others are restaurants, where local foods such as matooke, fish and tea are prepared. There are also some decent restaurants where people go for a more sophisticated meal.
Beauty at the Island
There are numerous attractions that the island has to offer and this is supplemented by a jungle with monkeys. The beauty, freshness and relaxation that the island offers have greatly led to the increased number of visitors to the Island. Some people today spend their honeymoon at the Island because of the originality of the beauty that is available.
The most beautiful island of all the Kalangala islands is Bukasa. This Island is more organized compared to other islands that are still traditionally fishing villages. But with the plan by the government to extend electricity to the place, it is expected to lead to a massive development of the whole Kalangala Island.
Visit Mirembe beach, a beach found in the quiet corners of Kalangala, with most of the modern facilities relaxation. There is hardly any pollution at the Island and the best place for relaxation is the Pearl Gardens Resort Beach. It has a well organized forest camping site as one of those things that one would like to have a glance at.
