Appreciating the beauty of Kalangala Islands

Appreciating the beauty of Kalangala Islands

Kalangala is an island found on East Africa’s largest lake called Lake Victoria and it takes a 3 hour sail across Lake Victoria to access the place. The journey to Kalangala is so interesting with a relaxing expedition. On your way to the island, a cool breeze will blow all the stress away and this is best experienced on the balconies, in case one is traveling by ferry.

It looks to be a hustle to get to the Island but once one is welcomed by the virgin rural look of this fishing village, he/she is convinced that the hustle was worth it. People at this island are peaceful and they mainly put up semi-permanent shelters. These features act as a welcome to this true African-styled village that is said to float on the lake.

There are no modern structures at the island. The only structures are the semi-permanent structures which act as people’s homes while others are restaurants, where local foods such as matooke, fish and tea are prepared. There are also some decent restaurants where people go for a more sophisticated meal.

Beauty at the Island

There are numerous attractions that the island has to offer and this is supplemented by a jungle with monkeys. The beauty, freshness and relaxation that the island offers have greatly led to the increased number of visitors to the Island. Some people today spend their honeymoon at the Island because of the originality of the beauty that is available.

The most beautiful island of all the Kalangala islands is Bukasa. This Island is more organized compared to other islands that are still traditionally fishing villages. But with the plan by the government to extend electricity to the place, it is expected to lead to a massive development of the whole Kalangala Island.

Visit Mirembe beach, a beach found in the quiet corners of Kalangala, with most of the modern facilities relaxation. There is hardly any pollution at the Island and the best place for relaxation is the Pearl Gardens Resort Beach. It has a well organized forest camping site as one of those things that one would like to have a glance at.

Kick the sand in the evening as you walk along the beach and late in the evening; converge at the campfire for a simple talk. From the gardens, you can tour different places on the island and enjoy some adventurous activities like spot fishing, sun bathing and many more.

There is no doubt that an extension of a safari to Uganda that includes a visit to Kalalangala Island,is one of those safaris that you will live to tell.
