Birding Watching Tour 21 Days

Day 1: Birding in Murchison Falls National parks chances of like raptors, Rock Pratincole, Crested Francolin, White crested Turaco, White-headed Barbet, Narina Trogon, Red-throated Bee-eater, Rufous-sided Broadbill, Silverbird, Red-cheeked Cordon blue, waxbills, finches, sunbirds and canaries, among others. Dinner and overnight at the lodge/camp. FB

Day 2: Morning game drive and birding during the afternoon boat trip to the bottom of the falls, look out for Abyssinian Ground Hornbill, Black-headed Plover, Rock Pratincole, Swallow-tailed Bee-Eater, Red-throated Bee-eater, Black-billed Barbet, Spotted Morning Thrush, Speckle fronted Weaver, White-browed Sparrow Weaver. Dinner and overnight at the lodge/Camp. FB

Day 3: Birding around the rift valley escarpment and enjoy the perfect view of Lake Albert. Look out for birds like Booted Eagle, Striped Kingfisher, African Hawk-Eagle, Swallow-tailed Bee-eater, Black- billed Barbet, Cliff Chat, Spotted Morning Thrush, Northern Crombec, Red-faced Crombec, Green-backed Eremomela, Yellow-bellied Hyliota, Rattling Cisticola, Foxy Cisticola, Red-winged Warbler, Red-winged Grey Warbler, Black-headed Batis, Western Violet-backed Sunbird, Red-winged Ptyalin, Chestnut-crowned Sparrow-Weaver, Black-faced Waxbill among others. Day 4: Birding in Budongo Forest. Expect to see species like the African Crowned Eagle, Hugli’s Francolin, Blue-breasted Kingfisher, Chocolate-backed Kingfisher, Dwarf Kingfisher, White-thighed Hornbill, a Selection of Tinkerbirds and Barbets, Yellow-crested Woodpecker, Brown-eared Woodpecker, Greenbuls, Fire-crested Alethe, Red-tailed Ant-thrush, Lemon-bellied Crombec, Rufus-crowned Eremomela, Whistling Cisticola, Black-throated Apalis, Black-capped Apalis, Grey-throated Flycatcher, Forest Flycatcher, Ituri Batis, Red-bellied Paradise Flycatcher, Chestnut-capped Flycatcher, Western Black-headed Oriole, Purple headed Starling, Brown Twinspot among others. Primates like red-tailed and blue monkeys and the black-and-white colobus can also be observed here. Proceed to Hoima for dinner and overnight at the hotel. FB

Day 5: Transit to Kibale Forest National Park with birding en-routegh chances of seeing birds like Western banded Snake Eagle, Striped Kingfisher, Great blue Turaco, Lizard Buzzard, Lesser Striped Swallow, Joyful Greenbul, Chubb’s Cisticola, Masked Apalis, Cassin’s Grey Flycatcher, Whinchat, Stonechat, Green-headed Sunbird, Common Fiscal among others. Dinner and overnight at the lodge/camp. FB

Day 6: Birding at Kanyanchu search for the Green-breasted Pitta and other species like Yellow-billed Barbet, African Emerald Cuckoo, Black-billed Turaco, Narina Trogon, Blue-shouldered Robin-chat, Sabine’s Spinetail, Chestnut Wattle eye and Narrow-tailed Starling among others. Primates like Red Colobus, Black and white Colobus, Grey-cheeked Mangabey, Olive Baboon, Red-tailed Monkey, L’Hoest’s Monkey among others. Dinner and overnight at the lodge/camp. FB

Day 7: Birding at the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary you may see the shoebilled stock. Proceed to Queen Elizabeth NP and bird en-route in search for, Lizard Buzzard, Blue-spotted Wood Dove, Great Blue Turaco, Blue-breasted Kingfisher, Black-and-white Casqued Hornbill, Woodland Kingfisher, Pygmy Kingfisher, Hairy-breasted Barbet, Double-toothed Barbet, little Greenbul, Winding Cisticola, ZittingCisticola, Green Crombec, Black-and-white Shrike-Flycatcher, Black-headed Gonolek, Bronze Sunbird, Fan-tailed Widowbird, Black Bishop, Black-crowned Waxbill among others.

Day 8: Morning game drive/ birding experience on the Kasenyi Plains and during the boat trip on the Kazinga Channel likely to see Pelicans, Green-backed Heron, Storks, African Spoonbill, African White-backed Vulture, Bateleur, Martial Eagle, Common Button Quail, African Crake, African Jacana, Black-bellied Bustard, Black-winged Stilt, Water Thick-knee, Temminck’s Courser, Spur-winged Lapwing, African Wattled Lapwing, Senegal Lapwing, Kittlitz’s Plover, Black Coucal, Pied Kingfisher, Grey-headed Kingfisher, Rufous-naped Lark, Flappet Lark, Grassland Pipit, Plain-backed Pipit, Yellow-throated Longclaw, White-browed Robin-chat, Sooty Chat, Zitting Cisticola, Croacking Cisticola, Babblers, Copper Sunbird, Scarlet-chested Sunbird, Red-chested Sunbird, Grey-backed Fiscal, Black-headed Gonolek, Starlings, Weavers, Widowbirds, Bishops, Finches and Waxbills among others.

Day 13: Birding at Buhoma-Ivi trail looking out for species like Black Bee-Eater, Tinkerbirds and Barbets, Woodpeckers, African Broadbill, Greenbuls, White-bellied Robin-Chat, Red-throated Alethe, Chapin’s Flycatcher, Red-faced Woodland Warbler, Grauer’s Warbler,Mountain Masked Apalis, Bocage’s Bush-shrike, Luhder’s Bush-shrike, Pink-footed Puffback, Petit’s Cuckooshrike, Starlings, Sunbirds, Black-billed Weaver, Brown-capped weaver, among others. Dinner and overnight at Lodge/Camp. FB

Day 14: Birding at Muyaga waterfall trail search for Bar-tailed Trogon, Black Bee-Eater, White-headed Wood-hoopoe, Tinkerbirds and Barbets, Woodpeckers, African Broadbill, assorted Greenbuls, White-bellied Robin-Chat, Red-throated Alethe, Chapin’s Flycatcher, Red-faced Woodland Warbler, Black-faced Rufous Warbler, Grauer’s Warbler, Short-tailed Warbler , Oberlander’s Ground Thrush ,Mountain Masked Apalis, Bocage’s Bush-shrike, Luhder’s Bush-shrike, Pink-footed Puffback, Petit’s Cuckooshrike, Starlings, Black-billed Weaver, Brown-capped weaver among other birds. Day 15: Birding as you transfer to Ruhija via the Neck, looking out for Black Bee-eater, Red-throated Wryneck, Mountain Wagtail, Toro Olive-Greenbul, White-starred Robin, Olive Thrush, Cassin’s-grey Flycatcher, Red-faced Woodland Warbler, Grauer’s Warbler, Chubb’s Cisticola, Banded Prinia, Mountain Masked Apalis, Chestnut-throated Apalis, Collared Apalis, Stripe-breasted Tit, Grey Cuckoo-shrike, Sharpe’s Starling, Regal Sunbird, Strange Weaver, Dusky Twinspot, Yellow Bishop, Black-throated Seedeater among others. Dinner and overnight at Lodge/Camp. FB

Day 16: Birding at Mubwindi Swamp, looking out for species like the Black-billed Turaco, Western Green Tinkerbird, Fine-banded Woodpecker, African Green-Broadbill, Shelly’s Crimsonwing, Mountain Greenbul, Yellow-streaked Greenbul, African Hill Babbler, Mountain Illadopsis, Yellow-eyed Black Flycatcher, Mountain Yellow Warbler, Red-faced Woodland Warbler, Grauer’s Warbler, Chestnut-throated Apalis, Collared Apalis, Stripe-breasted Tit, Rwenzori Batis, Doherty’s Bush-shrike, Bar-tailed Trogon, Blue-headed Sunbird, Regal Sunbird and more. Day 17: Drive to Kisoro and birding Echuya forest , search for the Papyrus Yellow Warbler and Papyrus Canary if we are lucky, as well as Carruther’s Cisticola, Little Rush Warbler and Fawn-breasted Waxbill, Handsome Francolin, Olive Pigeon, Western Green Tinkerbird, Archer’s Robin-Chat, Kivu Ground Thrush, Dusky Blue Flycatcher, Mountain Masked Apalis, White-browed Crombec, Stripe-breasted Tit, Rwenzori Batis, Doherty’s Bush-shrike, Montane Oriole, White-napped Raven, Dusky Crimsonwing, Black-crowned Waxbill, Black-headed Waxbill among other birds. Dinner and overnight at the lodge/hotel in Kisoro.

Day 19: Birding in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, looking out for Dusky Turtle Dove, Rwenzori Turaco, Cape Robin-Chat, White-eyed Slaty Flycatcher, Grassland Pipit, White-starred Robin, Common Stone Chat, Mountain Yellow Warbler, Mackinnon’s Fiscal, White-napped Raven, Lagden’s Bush-Shrike, Bronze Sunbird, Yellow-crowned Canary, Streaky Seedeater and try the elusive Shelly’s Crimson-wing among other birds. Dinner and overnight at the lodge/hotel in Kisoro. FB

Day 20: Birding enroute to Lake Mburo After looking out for Bateleur, Crested Francolin, Emerald-spotted Wood Dove, Brown Parrot, Bare-faced Go-away-bird, Blue-napped Mousebird, African Grey Hornbill, Spot-flanked Barbet, Yellow-breasted Apalis, White-eyed Slaty Flycatcher, Stripe-breasted Tit, Mountain Masked Apalis, Rwenzori Batis, White-napped Raven, Fork tailed Drongo, Black-crowned Waxbill, and Black-headed Waxbill.
